Net Art and Activism in Brazil and
India
How can tactical media be used as an instrument of education in developing
countries?
From Sao Paolo, Brazil:
Tatiana Wells
<www.midiatatica.org>
The first tactical media festival in Brazil was held in February 2003. It was
attended by 3,000 people and it made the national headlines. Tatiana, one of
the main organizers, will explain how it came together and what the outcomes
are for Brazilian artists and activists.
Ricardo Rosas
<www.rizoma.net>
Ricardo will give an overview of recent media art and activism in Brazil. He
will introduce the forthcoming Autolab, an independent media lab in the Sao
Paolo favelas, a direct result of the Tactical Media Lab.
From New Delhi, India:
Monica Narula - Sarai Media Lab (TBC)
<www.sarai.net>
Monica is a founder member of Sarai and an artist from the Raqs media collective.
She will introduce us to Sarai’s aims. mission and some of its programs,
such as Cybermohalla, a free software project set in 2 media labs in working-class
areas of Delhi.
Cybersalon goes back to its roots!
Cybersalon @ Lifthouse is a new series of informal monthly Cybersalon
discussions based in East London. The themes alternate between digital
art and net activism. They cater for about 50 people on a first come
basis and include short presentations and a discussion followed by
a chill social space with DJs and VJs.
These sessions let us feedback work recently completed
or in progress, discuss new uses of tactical media, disseminate information
from media art festivals and interventions and respond to current events
and invited guests who may be in town.
Be part of Cybersalon @ Lifthouse
We welcome suggestions for speakers and DJs/VJs for these events. To make suggestions
or for further info contact: cybersundays[AT]cybersalon.org
